Overview of Wamba Wemba Aboriginal Corporation
The Wamba Wemba Aboriginal Corporation (WWAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party for Wamba Wemba Country. We are an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation committed to protecting cultural heritage, advancing self-determination and building prosperity for Wamba Wemba People. We work under the guidance of Gnerrick Gnerrick
(Elders), the Council of Gnerrick Gnerrick and board of strong Wamba Wemba women and men.
Job Purpose
The Economic Development Manager will lead WWAC’s commercial and economic development agenda, advancing projects and negotiations that build wealth, opportunity and self-determination for Wamba Wemba People. This includes mining and renewable energy negotiations, commercial enterprise, tourism development and supporting our reserve seat
member with treaty, to name a few.
The Manager will work closely with the CEO, Gnerrick Gnerrick, Community and key partners to shape commercial opportunities. They will build and train a team of Wamba Wemba people to support this work and grow local capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage Council of Gnerrick Gnerrick by seeking their feedback and opinions, ensuring all commercial work respects cultural values.
- Develop and implement an Economic Development Strategy that sets long-term prosperity pathways for Wamba Wemba People.
- Lead WWAC’s economic development agenda across mining, renewable energy, commercial and tourism opportunities.
- Support our reserve seat member with treaty.
- Work together with the CEO, Board and Gnerrick Gnerrick to negotiate agreements and partnerships with governments, renewable energy companies, mining companies and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager to design financial models, prepare business cases and establish pathways for new commercial entities and joint ventures.
- Manage feasibility studies, business planning and policy development to support enterprise creation.
- Build, mentor and train a team of Wamba Wemba people to support economic development projects.
- Foster alliances and partnerships that advance self-determination and community benefit.
What We’re Looking For
- Someone with a love for Wamba Wemba culture, or a genuine willingness to engage with and learn more about Country and culture, alongside a commitment to the self-determination and prosperity of Wamba Wemba People.
- Proven experience in economic development, commercial negotiations, or strategic partnerships (renewables, mining, policy, tourism, or related fields).
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work respectfully with Gnerrick Gnerrick, Community, government and industry.
- Experience in developing strategies, business cases, or feasibility studies.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas to different audiences.
